Melby Places 6th in the State!

Capping off one of the finest seasons ever had by a Westfield High School wrestler, senior Tyler Melby placed 6th in the state at the 285 lb. weight class.  Melby's season is simply incredible.  Melby was a county champion, HCC champion, Sectional champion, regional runner up (Loss in OT), Semi State Runner Up (loss in OT), and capped it off by finishing 6th in the state.  Melby's tournament began with a 4-2 decision on Friday night over an opponent from Brownsburg.  Tyler dropped a hard fought overtime loss to the eventual state champion in the quarter finals.  In the consolation bracket he dominated his opponent from Evansville Mater Dei who only had one loss coming into the state tournament.  In the 5th place match, Tyler again put it all on the line, before dropping a 3-1 match in overtime.  We are so proud of all of his accomplishments this season.  Teammates Brady White and Lukas Schaeffer came up one match short of placing in the state.  White dropped a 15-5 major decision to the eventual state champion, and Schaeffer battled a tough Evansville Mater Dei opponent to a 4-1 loss.  Thanks to everyone who came out to support WHS at the state event!  It was a memorable experience for all involved.
